UTERINE AND OVARIAN CANCER RISK

Hair Relaxer Litigation

Hair Relaxers and Straighteners May Increase Uterine and Ovarian Cancer Risk

Eiland & Bonnin are investigating claims that women who used hair straightening products from L’Oreal, Dark and Lovely, ORS Olive Oil, Just For Me and others were placed at increased risk for uterine and ovarian cancer.  These hair relaxers and hair straighteners are alleged to contain toxic chemicals that increase the risk of reproductive cancers, particularly in Black women who use these products more frequently.

If you or a loved one developed uterine or ovarian cancer after using hair straighteners, you could be eligible for compensation.

Sister Study Shows the Link
The Sister Study is a study of over 50,000 women conducted by the National Institute of Environmental Health Science, a part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services.  Recently, leading researchers in the study published two papers, one documenting the increased risk of ovarian cancer and one documenting the increased risk of uterine cancer in women who had used hair relaxer or hair straighter products.  The study reported that women who used straightening products in the previous 12 months had an 80% increase in their rates of uterine cancer.  For women who used hair relaxers more than 4 times a year, the risk of ovarian cancer was more than doubled.

Lawsuits are Being Filed

Multiple lawsuits have been filed in various federal and state courts around the country against the makers of hair relaxers and straighteners, alleging that the manufacturers failed to make sure their products were safe, and failed to warn women that their products contain toxic hormone-disrupting chemicals that can lead to cancer.

If you or someone you know has used hair relaxers or hair straightening products and suffered from any of the following:

  • Ovarian Cancer

  • Uterine Cancer
